Within my artwork, I am interested in the ephemeral as well as the eventual degradation of things around me. This is important in regards to myself, and my relationships with people and objects around me. What draws me to these ideas is the relationship of the ephemeral to memories, even forgotten ones, and to my desire to capture fleeting moments. The semblance of time that is created through mark making, and the inability to cease deconstruction of the elements around me is what draws me to the process of disintegration. On one level there is acceptance of the passage of time, however within that acceptance there is desire to hold these cursory moments. I aim to capture these fleeting moments within my work, knowing that as time passes, like all things, it too will fade. There are in these processes of destruction however, moments of beauty and delicacy that I seek to highlight and attempt to preserve. Similarly, within my bookmaking processes I aim to hold onto these cursory moments and fading memories by encapsulating them so that they are protected from the passage of time and inevitable degradation. The process of creation within artist books is ritualistic and gives a space for this fleeting beauty to exist. It is in these moments that I am able to highlight the importance of my experiences while accepting their ultimate passing. Further, these artist books create a space for intimacy between the creator and the viewer through the shared experience of holding a collection of moments and understanding their significance, if only for a brief juncture.
